Am I Being Scammed?

If you found this page while researching an investment opportunity, cryptocurrency platform, trading website, or online project because something does not feel right, take that concern seriously.

People usually do not search phrases such as “Is this website a scam?” or “Am I being scammed?” without first noticing suspicious behavior. Your concern does not automatically prove that the platform is fraudulent, but it is a strong reason to pause, stop sending money, and investigate further.

Warning Signs of an Investment or Cryptocurrency Scam

Start by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Have you transferred cryptocurrency or other funds to a platform that now controls them?
  • Does the platform display a balance or supposed profits but prevent you from withdrawing?
  • Have you been asked to connect your cryptocurrency wallet or approve a token, transaction, or smart contract you do not fully understand?
  • Are the people or company operating the platform difficult to identify or independently verify?
  • Does the platform promise guaranteed returns, unusually high profits, or a low-risk investment?
  • Is there little credible information about the company outside its own website, advertisements, or promotional content?

A professional-looking website, active customer support representative, or large balance displayed on your account does not prove that the platform is legitimate. Fake cryptocurrency trading platforms are often designed to appear convincing and may display fabricated profits to encourage victims to deposit more money.

Can Online Reviews Be Trusted?

Online reviews should be treated cautiously when researching a potential scam website.

Review platforms such as Trustpilot and Sitejabber may contain fake positive reviews intended to create an appearance of legitimacy. Reddit posts, social media comments, and discussion forums can also be manipulated through astroturfing, paid promotion, coordinated comments, or accounts controlled by the scammers themselves.

A large number of positive reviews does not necessarily mean that an investment platform or cryptocurrency website is legitimate. Look for independently verifiable information, including company records, regulatory registrations, identifiable operators, a credible business history, and reporting from established sources.

Unable to Withdraw Your Funds?

One of the clearest signs of a cryptocurrency investment scam is being unable to withdraw your money.

A fake trading platform may claim that you must make another payment before your withdrawal can be processed. Common excuses include:

  • Taxes
  • Withdrawal fees
  • Verification charges
  • Account upgrade fees
  • Security deposits
  • Liquidity requirements
  • Insurance payments
  • Wallet activation or unlocking fees

These demands are commonly associated with withdrawal scams and advance-fee fraud. Once one payment is made, the scammers typically invent another fee or requirement.

Legitimate fees are generally disclosed in advance and deducted from the account balance or withdrawal amount. A platform demanding repeated cryptocurrency payments to release existing funds is a major warning sign.

Do not continue sending money simply because the platform claims that one final payment will unlock your account or release your profits. In most online investment fraud cases, additional payments only lead to further losses.
